As a (super nerdy) fan of superhero movies, I'm always a little worried they won't live up to all the hype. Spider-man definitely didn't disappoint, though! Marc and I were thoroughly entertained for the full 136 minutes.
When the first Spider-Man came out ten years ago, I was blown away by the special effects. I didn't realize at the time how much the focus on CGI detracted from the story, though. The Amazing Spider-Man focused a lot more on the characters and the plot and a lot less on the technology.
The thing that really won me over in the new version was Andrew Garfield. Toby Maguire was a decent Spider-Man, but he didn't play a very believable teenager. He's a great actor, but he just didn't seem the perfect fit for the part. Garfield, however, nailed the character. He captured the awkward and angsty teenage traits perfectly, and he brought just the right amount of drama to the role. His body language was also spot on.
Also, you can never go wrong with Emma Stone. I love her. I think I want to be her when I grow up. You can be someone who's younger than you when you grow up, right? It totally makes sense.
Anyway, I definitely recommend The Amazing Spider-Man. It had good action, good comedy, and an interesting storyline. And I promise you won't feel like you're watching the old Spider-Man again. Especially the third one, that one was kind of a bust.
So bring it on Batman! The superhero movies are on a roll this summer, and you're next.
Have you seen the new Spider-Man yet? I'd love to hear what you thought of it!
