Movie Review: To Rome With Love

So last weekend, my parents and the boyfriend headed to the movie theater to see Moonrise Kingdom. Even though it was a Saturday night, we thought we'd be able to get tickets no problem since the movie had been out for a while. Apparently, everyone in the area decided that seeing Moonrise Kingdom at 8:30 was a brilliant idea, so the movie was sold out.

The only other movie that we could all agree on was Woody Allen's To Rome With Love. Here's a preview in case you haven't seen one:

Overall, I think we all enjoyed the movie. It wasn't as great as some of his others, and it didn't have an incredibly brilliant storyline, but it was definitely entertaining. I have to admit, there were a couple scenes that gave me a pretty amazing ab workout, and maybe even got me a couple funny looks. As a compilation of several different story lines, there are of course some that are better than others. I was originally drawn to this movie because of the stellar cast (Alec Baldwin, Ellen Page, Jesse Eisenberg, Penelope Cruz...), but I found that I enjoyed the story lines featuring less known Italian actors a little more. I didn't even mind reading the subtitles. Who knew?

A warning: the scenery in this movie will definitely make you drool. You better hold onto your wallet, getting to Rome isn't cheap.

Have you seen To Rome With Love? What did you think?

  3. Thanks for the write-up, I loved Midnight In Paris and am eager to see Allen's follow up. Moonrise Kingdom is in my top 5 of this year so far. Hope you guys can go and see a non sold out showing of it, it is worth the effort.

  4. I've seen both! I love Wes Anderson, and I loved Moonrise Kingdom, but not as much as I love Royal Tenenbaums!

I liked To Rome, also, but I always am a little iffy on films glorifying adultery haha. Still, I loved the cast and it gave me some giggles. ;)
