Mixing Prints

My Threads: Shirt: H&M, Skirt: Hollister, Belt, Bracelet & Necklace: Forever 21, Wedges: Me Too via Nordstrom, Watch: Fossil, Bag: Kenneth Cole Reaction

Today I'm linking up with the always stylish Marion over at Marionberry Style for her Trend of the Month Challenge. Which is...dum dum dum...pattern mixing.

An honest confession: mixing prints terrifies me. I think it's an adorable trend, and there are loads of bloggers that are print mixing artists, but I'm just not one of them.

Today I spent about 20-30 minutes staring at my closet before I pulled out a few patterned things. About eight outfits later, I settled on a striped shirt with a floral skirt. Then I didn't have any shoes that worked, so I just grabbed some neutral wedges.

So this is the result of my first real attempt at mixing patterns. I've had a few previous attempts, but none were very well documented. Or not documented at all.

I think this all stems from being really good at pattern mixing (ha) when I was a kid, then having kids point out it wasn't cool (yet).

Anyway, this was a good exercise for me. Although a little frustrating, I like taking on more difficult challenges. Plus I actually got a wearable outfit out of it! I think we can call it a win win.

Are there any trends you struggle with?

  1. Mixing prints is def. a trend I struggle with. I still haven't mastered it, none of the looks I come up with have ever left my bedroom lol

  7. Wow, I think you did fabulously...stripes/florals can't really go wrong, if you ask me...it's my fav pattern combination. Plus these blues are so pretty on you :) I struggle with a lot of more modern trends...I def don't know how to pull of the kind of relaxed urban look that's been big lately. Or neons, they scare me!
