The Magic of the Movies

As you probably know, the Academy Awards are tomorrow. And as you may or may not know, I'm completely obsessed with movies (runs in the family). You can bet I'll be planted on the couch tomorrow night with some popcorn and the pups (who are enormous Meryl Streep fans) watching the action unfold.

There are of course several great movies nominated for awards, but I thought I'd give some love to the movies that didn't make the cut. Or that would never make the cut since the Academy is made up of old white men.

So here's a list of some of my favorite 2011 flicks that weren't nominated (not really in order since I wouldn't be able to decide):

-Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt 1 and 2 (on every Harry Potter nerd's list of course)
-Bridesmaids
-The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
-Crazy, Stupid, Love.
-X-men: First Class
-Young Adult
-Thor
-Super 8
-Captain America
-Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol

And a few that almost made my list:

-Source Code
-Rise of the Planet of the Apes
-Hanna

I haven't seen Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy but I think that would make my list too. And it wasn't nominated! What?! I thought it would surely make the list. You never know though.

2012 is looking like it will be a great year for action movies! If you're obsessed with fantasy and superhero flicks (like I might be...ok am), then get ready to be blown away. (I know, blown away by an action movie...that's cheesy humor that isn't funny, Emily. You can thank my parents for that.)

For your viewing pleasure, a few trailers I've been drooling over:

The Hunger Games

The Dark Knight Rises

The Avengers

The Hobbit

The Bourne Legacy

The Amazing Spiderman

Snow White and The Huntsman

Ok, I'll stop now. That was a few more than a few. I guess I'm just a little movie crazed this weekend!

Have a happy Saturday! I bet you'll spend it watching movies now:)

We all scream for ice cream...unless you're lactose intolerant

Hi, my name is Emily and I am an ice cream addict. Unfortunately for me, ice cream is primarily made out of dairy. And I'm lactose intolerant. Sad story, right?

Anyway, I've spent the last few years searching for good non-dairy alternatives (ok, mostly non-dairy ice cream) and I'm sharing my latest discovery with you. Almond milk ice cream.

For a while I was obsessed with coconut milk ice cream (which I still think is amazing), but Almond Dream had hardly any fat and tastes so good. Really, it does. My dairy-loving boyfriend even liked it. And what girl doesn't love a low fat ice cream that tastes good?

So here's my Monday advice for you: Go to Sprouts (or another health-food store) and buy some! You're tastebuds (and New Year's 'get fit' resolution) will thank you for it.

Marc says I should post my threads for today (despite my messy hair) so here they are.

My threads:
Top: Target
Blazer: H&M
Pants: ?
Pumps: Jessica Simpson via Ross
Watch: Fossil (can't see it here)
Earrings: ?

Oh, and this is what I came home from work to: puppies bringing me toys as I walked through the door.

Hope you enjoyed the holiday today! Or if you had to work like I did, I hope you enjoyed the lack of traffic! It's a big deal here in LA. No traffic is almost as good as a holiday. Almost.

From the Closet: It's a boy!

My threads:
Blazer: H&M
Tank: Old Navy
Scarf: Boutique in SLO
Jeans: Target
Booties: Target

Busy first full week at work! Also, we have a new baby in the family (as of Friday)! So I haven't posted much. By much I mean at all. But I will be better this week! As long as no one else I know gives birth. (Not a very good excuse.)

It was pretty sunny this afternoon, so we decided to take a few shots in my mom's garden (we were visiting home this weekend). I wore this in honor of my new baby boy cousin. Ok, honestly I didn't plan the blue outfit that way, but it works so I'm going with it. I actually wore it to a jazz concert this afternoon.  So I could also say I wore it while someone was singing' the blues. But I won't, that's incredibly cheesy.

I hope everyone had a great weekend! Or continues to if you are one of the lucky ones who gets Monday off...

Here's a shot showing my excitement about new babies. If you let me hold your baby, I will do this for you too.

Case of the Mondays: Gotye cover and a dancing grandma

It's Monday. And it's raining. A day can't get much gloomier than that. So here are a couple videos for your viewing pleasure.

Sidenote: That grandma's moves are disturbingly similar to mine....perhaps it's time for me to evaluate my dance skills.

A Little Romance

Can you believe it's already the middle of February?! How did that happen?

Anyway, it's almost Valentine's Day (you're welcome for the reminder, boyfriends who forgot). Here's a list of my favorite romantic flicks. Just in time to add them to you're Netflix Queue. Or to go find the last video rental store in your state and search for one.

In no particular order...

-Princess Bride
-When Harry Met Sally
-The Notebook
-Love Actually
-500 Days of Summer
-10 Things I Hate About You
-Titanic
-Crazy, Stupid, Love
-West Side Story
-Pride and Prejudice

I'm sure there are loads more, but I'm limiting myself to 10. What are your favorites?

Marc (boyfriend) and I don't do much for Valentine's Day, but we celebrated today by going out do dinner, mini golfing (I lost by two points, the swinging tiki pole killed me) and indoor go-kart racing.

Enjoy whatever plans you have!

A Whole Lot of New

So I've been sitting here for a while now, trying to decide how you start a blog. I mean, I am either greeting people who don't know me, or I'm writing a post no one will ever read...essentially talking to myself.

I guess there's no better way than to dive right in!

If you don't know me, I'm Emily. I have a degree in Journalism and miss writing. Lucky you, you're now a victim of my 'creative' rants:)

I'm not completely sure what you can expect to learn from this blog. Maybe a little about new bands. Perhaps an amazing recipe I discovered. Or maybe even get some style inspiration, who knows.

Anyway, it's a Devine life we live (get it? no? Oh...my last name is Devine) and I'm here to share mine with you, world. Whether you like it or not.

Oh, a sidenote, I started a new job today. First real grown-up job. Here's me in my wrinkled grown up clothes. Oh and my dogs. They like to get in on the action.

Happy Friday!
