Seeing Spots

Top: Old Navy
Skirt: H&M
Flats: Target
Jewelry: Fossil, Forever 21

I would like to take a quick moment to officially welcome spring to Southern California. While everyone else was whipping out their skirts and florals last week, a big storm cloud decided to hang out over LA for several days this week.

Then I got a cold. So maybe it just felt like winter for several extra days.

Anyway, it's time to start busting out the spring wardrobe. I got this polka dotted skirt a few months ago, and it just sat in my closet begging me to wear it every morning. I had to be quite firm with it and explain it was still cold outside and my legs are pasty white. It has finally been set free. (My legs are still pasty white though.)

What did you do this week to welcome in the new season?

The World Was Watching

The Hunger Games has taken the world by storm this week. I think the movie was hyped more than Twilight and maybe even Harry Potter. Crazy, right?

I saw The Hunger Games on Friday night after standing in line for an hour to get a decent seat. And it was worth it! The movie didn't disappoint.

As a movie fanatic, I like to see big blockbusters as soon as they come out so I can formulate my own opinion about them. Of course I see some critic reviews before the official release day, but critics either love or hate movies. And Harry Potter only had 97% on Rotten Tomatoes (ha, only) so there are obviously some critics that are just wrong. Can you tell I'm a Harry Potter fan?

Anyway, back to The Hunger Games. (I could go on about Harry Potter for pages, I have to keep myself in check.) I read The Hunger Games series in January and couldn't put the books down. Needless to say, I was very excited to see the stories brought to life on the big screen. However, the series is really more like one long book, and seeing the first movie alone just feels a little incomplete. But fear not! They're making the second and third books into movies. We just have to wait until 2013 to see the next one.

I was also a little worried how a book that was focused on one character's inner-monologue would translate to a movie, but there were no problems there. It was never confusing, and you didn't have to listen to a girl talking to herself for an hour, phew!

So I say if you haven't seen it yet, go see it now! And just to clear up any misconceptions, it is NOT a movie that only teenage girls will enjoy.

Happy Hunger Games!

Oh, and I accidentally wore my hair like this to the movie, never noticing the back of Katniss' head in previews. This will now be referred to as the Katniss braid. Only hers somehow looks way better...

Being a tourist in my own city

Today, I spent 2 hours wandering around downtown LA with a camera in my hand. Mildly embarrassing considering I grew up 20 minutes from the city. The worst part? We kept finding ourselves in the same places as a giant tourist group complete with headphones, fanny packs and disposable cameras. Yikes.

I always thought downtown LA was just a bunch of boring office buildings, but there are some pretty cool landmarks there. Best part of the day? Placing my rear end on the same bench Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel sat on in "500 Days of Summer." I may or may not be slightly obsessed with that movie...

Anyway, here are a few photos we attempted to take discretely throughout the day.

Have you ever felt like a tourist in the city you're from?

A cute preview to brighten your day

So they're making a Despicable Me 2. I liked the first one, but was a little surprised to hear they were making a sequel. Then I watched the preview. And laughed out loud. While sitting in the office by myself. I know, I'm not a nerd or anything...

Anyway, here it is. If this doesn't make you laugh, you should probably get your funny bone checked.

On Mars they wear loincloths, on Earth we wear sweater-tights

My threads:
dress, jacket, tights: H&M
Shoes: Target

Yes, I just saw John Carter. It was pretty entertaining, good special effects and good action scenes, but certainly not the best script in the world. I haven't read the books so I don't know how they compare, but if your looking for fun and sometimes funny movie, John Carter provides that. Anyway, pretty much all the characters on Mars walk around in underwear or loincloths. I guess it's hot on Mars?

It made me appreciate that here on Earth we can wear jackets and sweater tights. (I was rockin' some the day we saw the movie.) I mean let's face it, no one wants to work out that much.

My point? Don't time travel to Mars unless you're super ripped.

And that's all I've got.

Hope you had a great weekend!
