Tutti Frutti

My Threads: Top: H&M, Pants: Ross? (I think), Necklace: JCrew (ebay version), Belt: Target, Bag: Gottschalks (when it existed), Shoes: local boutique

Confession: I love the color yellow. It's tied with blue for my favorite color. In case you were wondering how much I like yellow, my iPod and wallet are both yellow, and I own pants, shirts, necklaces, scarves...and two pair of shoes in the sunny hue.

When the amazing Marion at Marionberry Style announced that this month's trend link-up was the color yellow, I pretty much jumped for joy. I couldn't decide which yellow things to go with, but eventually the bold pants won. I sort of feel like a strawberry banana smoothie in this, plus my shirt looks like a picnic. But I like fruit and picnics and summer, so I just went with the fruity feel of it.

Also linking up with Simply Sarah for her pink challenge.

On another note, did anyone else watch TV shows that got cancelled at the end of this season? I checked renewal lists after the season finale of 'Awake' (which got cancelled), and discovered a few other shows I watched were cancelled too. I'm most upset about 'Alcatraz', not because it was my favorite show, but because the season ended with a million cliffhangers that will now never be answered. Guhhhh.

Anyway, happy hump day! Hope you get to enjoy some sun today. And if you can't, wear yellow!

Movie Review: Men in Black 3

After a long weekend full of movies, sunshine, fiestas, good food, and a few too many water slide wedgies, I am back on the computer. Since I spend so much time in front of a screen during the week, it's definitely nice to get away sometimes.

I'm photoless today thanks to hat hair, bathing suits, extreme walking, and mild sunburns taking over my weekend. Not exactly prime photo opportunities. Although the beach was very photogenic.

Anyway, on to Men in Black. Because men who wear suits and fight crazy-looking aliens deserve to be talked about.

I saw the first MIB movie way back when, and really liked it. What elementary school kid wouldn't? Then, the second one came out, and it was not so great. When I heard a third movie was going to be released, it seemed like a total act of desperation.

Good reviews and an entertaining trailer convinced me to see it anyway, and I'm really glad I did.

The third one had all the great comedy, action, and creativity the original one had, but with better special effects. And even though some people get annoyed by Will Smith's similar character selections, I think he's still got it. And Tommy Lee Jones has way still got it. And Josh Brolin is a perfect Tommy Lee Jones.

All around a fun movie that stands well on its own, and certainly makes up for the accident that was MIB2. I definitely recommend seeing it. Unless you didn't like the first one or hate aliens. Then it may not be your cup of tea.

Hope you all enjoyed the holiday!

Come Fly Away

My Threads: Top: H&M, Blazer: H&M, Skirt: H&M, Shoes: Ross, Clutch: Forever 21, Jewelry: Fossil, Forever 21

I didn't realize when I threw this together that I would be decked out in stuff from H&M. I promise my goal was not to be a walking advertisement or anything. I sort of just like their clothes.

Do you remember when the whole goal of an outfit was to be a walking ad though? In middle school and high school, you were pretty cool if the front of your shirt said Roxy, and the back of your hoodie said Abercrombie. And if you were extra cool, the butt of your pants would said Juicy.

I don't miss those days. At least not the 'cool' trends of those days. Also, the low pants, high cut top, midriff trend wasn't much of a winner. I cross my fingers that one won't come back every season. I mean, who wants to spend the whole day pulling down their shirt to avoid detention? Sounds like a lot of stress.

On another note, the Modern Family season finale was pretty awesome, and you should watch it. Right now.

Ooooo, Shiny

My Threads: Top: H&M, Jeans: Target, Shoes: Target, Clutch & Headband: Forever 21, Watch: Fossil

I sort of feel like a human disco ball in this sweater. But I also sort of love it. I ogled over it for a while (yes, like a bug drawn to light), then forgot about it. Until....I found it on the clearance rack for $10. There was only one left, and it was my size. That never happens. So I decided it was like disco fate. Or something like that.

Also, a quick note about these pants. When I got them, I wasn't really sure what I was going to wear them with. I usually picture several outfits in my head before I buy something, but I could only picture black or white tees with these. I was in for a beautiful surprise though when I discovered they work with all kinds of things. In fact, I think I've worn them more than any other pair of pants for the last couple months. Blogging has made me look at my closet with a fresh eye, and I love it!

One more you ever like songs more after they're on Glee? No? You mean people in their 20s don't normally watch Glee? Nevermind then.

Happy Hump Day!

Staring at the Sun

My Threads: Dress: Hollister, Jacket: American Eagle Outfitters, Belt: Forever 21, Shoes: Ross, Bag: Steve Madden via Nordstrom, Jewelry: Street market, Fossil

I know it's technically still spring, but it was 90 degrees here today, so I decided it was time to pull out the summer uniform. Sundress, sandals, denim jacket. That's pretty much what I wear during the summer. Since I'm posting outfits now though, I'll try and be a little more creative so you don't get too bored. And so I don't get bored. Shorts and skirts need some love too, right?

And speaking of sunny and warm, did you see the eclipse last night? (Bad segway, sorry.) Anyway, it was pretty cloudy where I was watching it, so I was actually able to look at it most of the time. Here's a picture I snapped with my phone.

Happy Tuesday!

Versatile Blogger Award

Meninas Sofisticadas was kind enough to nominate me for the Versatile Blogger Award. If you haven't checked out her blog, you should! She talks about all kinds of fabulous fashion over there.

My 7 Randoms:
1. I am mildly completely obsessed with artichokes. I could eat them every day.

Highlighter Tee

My Threads: Top: Pacific Sunwear (I think, really old), Jeans: Hollister, Belt & Heels: Target, Jewelry: Fossil, Forever 21

So this shirt is neon. It looks sort of pastel pink here (thank you camera), but in real life? Definitely neon. It's pretty old though, I think it was brighter several years ago. Maybe the universe was trying to tell me neon was over, so it convinced my washer to make my shirt fade.

But now neon is back. Take that universe.

Also, I've decided my limbs sort of have a mind of their own when taking photos. Not sure why my legs are twisted weird, or what my arm is doing on my head in these pictures. Maybe I was adjusting my ponytail? I really don't know.

Oh, and then there was this one...

Happy Friday! Anyone have any good movie recommendations for the weekend?

1 Outfit, 2 Ways

My (outfit one) Threads: Top: American Eagle Outfitters, Blazer: H&M, Skirt: Charlotte Russe, Shoes: Target, Clutch: Forever 21, Jewelry: Fossil, Target, Forever 21

My (outfit two) Threads: Top: American Eagle Outfitters, Skirt: Charlotte Russe, Belt: Target, Wedges: TOMS, Jewelry: Fossil, Forever 21, made the flower clip

I sort of love it when you find an outfit you can wear two different ways. It requires less brainwork, which is always good. At least for getting dressed, don't cut corners if you design airplanes or something please...

Anyway, I'm learning to never underestimate the power of some accessories. Or of checking the mirror before you leave (crooked necklace) and the light outside before you take pictures (yikes). Ah, the lessons you learn while blogging.

I'd also just like to say that the picture below is probably what all my photos would look like if Marc let me have my way. Be grateful he takes my pictures, or may have to endure a whole lot of flared nostrils and crossed eyes.

What Am I Wearing?

My Threads: Top: Old Navy, Skirt: Forever 21, Boots: Reflections, Jewelry: Europe, Fossil, Forever 21

Do you ever spend 20 minutes staring at your closet, then just shrug your shoulders and grab something? That's sort of how this outfit happened. I didn't feel like thinking anymore, so I just grabbed a skirt, pulled out a shirt, and crossed my fingers. After a quick glance in the mirror, I thought 'eh, that'll do' and called it a day. Or not really, because I then had to carry on with the actual day.

A year ago, I would have thought this outfit was ridiculously mismatched. My current philosophy is more along the lines of 'I wear what I want and hope it sort of matches' though, so I've decided feeling mismatched is okay.

Do you ever struggle to get dressed, then end up walking out the door in whatever? Maybe it's just me...

Life Lately (In Photos)

Life has been a little busy lately. Between a new job, Marc's finals and birthday, Mother's Day, volunteering at a nonprofit, and trying to start 'working out' again, I haven't had loads of time to blog.

Don't worry though, I have still been getting dressed.

And just a note about the whole 'working out' is horribly unpleasant. I don't have a gym membership right now (I never go when I have one), so I've started running again. And by running, I mean jogging a block, then walking a block while holding my side. I hate to admit it, but I think I'm out of shape. That's probably an understatement. If there was a zombie apacolypse tomorrow, I'd be the first to go. Incentive to get my rear end back into shape again! My teeny dogs can currently run faster and further than I can.

What do you do for exercise? I'd love to hear creative ideas.

When I Zig, You Zag

My Threads: Dress: Francesca's, Belt: Forever 21, Booties: Target, Jewelry: Fossil, Charlotte Russe

So these pictures are not great, they were taken on the way out the door. But I thought I'd post them anyway because I sort of love this dress.

Anyway, here's my embarrassing story of the week. It actually has to do with zig zagging...and there are zig zags on my dress. A correlation!

My landlord (or technically just owner of my unit) came to pick up the check for rent the other day, and chaos ensued the moment he knocked on the door.  He arrived an hour earlier than expected, so I hadn't fenced the dogs anywhere, and I was wearing sweats and socks with a towel on my head (just got out of the shower). Usually when I open the door, the dogs just stand behind me and bark. This time, however, Bella decided it would be fun to bolt out between my legs. While Petey is pretty good at coming when he is called, Bella doesn't listen at all and thinks 'chase' is the most amazing game in the world. SO. I bolted out the door after her, leaving Petey barking inside and my landlord completely confused on my doorstep. I chased Bella around the grass outside our apartment for at least five minutes before finally chasing her toward our front door and grabbing her. Did I mention I was still wearing sweats, socks, and a towel during all of this?

I don't interact with my landlord very often, and he probably has a pretty strange opinion of me now. My neighbors may think I'm a little psycho too.

I blame the dog.

Needless to say, we've decided it's probably time to take the pups to a training class.

Here's Bella in all her mischievous glory.

Has your dog ever done anything like this? I feel like my dogs are a little insane...

I'm a Copycat

My Threads: Top: Forever 21, Blazer: H&M, Pin: H&M, Pants: H&M, Wedges: Kohl's, Jewelry: H&M, Fossil, Forever 21

Today I'm linking up with Simply Sarah for a Blogger Copycat post. I actually have a a white blazer and pink shirt and considered copying the outfit below exactly, but then decided my pink shirt looked weird with these pants. So I reversed it.

Thanks Kimberly at Penny Pincher Fashion for the inspiration!

Kimberly from Penny Pincher Fashion
And now, a short love letter to my shoes.

Dear Wedges,

I would like to take a moment to thank you for your comfort. I normally don't love wearing heels or wedges because my feet start hurting within ten minutes. But you, dear shoes, are like walking on a little cloud. I didn't love your look at first, but once I put you on my feet, I knew you had to come home with me. And I'm so glad you did. Welcome to my closet. And thank you for being you.

Love, Emily
