Long and Short of It

My Threads: Dress: Abercrombie and Fitch (splurge version), Shirt: J.Crew Factory, Booties: Target, Bag: Calvin Klein, Necklace and Bracelets: Forever 21 (similar), Watch: Michael Kors

My camera charger is back! And it is giving my camera new life as we speak. Or as I speak, since this isn't much of a conversation yet.

So I've already layered this dress with a shirt over it, now I'm layering it with a shirt underneath. Marc actually thought the shirt was part of the dress. He also told me he didn't like turtlenecks and that only moms wear them. Obviously, he isn't scoring any style points today.

I'd also like to note that I don't usually make a point of wearing dresses this short. I ordered this one online after seeing it on a petite girl. In a moment of weakness, I completely forgot that the same dress would look way shorter on someone who is a good seven or eight inches taller. But once I zipped it up, I knew it was never going back to the store.

Are hem extensions a thing? My super white legs could definitely use some.

Happy Hump Day!

Gag Reel

Okay, so I can't take pictures for a couple days because my camera is dead. You are probably wondering why I can't just charge it. Well, I left my charger at my parent's house last weekend. And my camera is so dead, it won't even turn on long enough to pull the pictures I did manage to take off of it.

So for now, I give you my weird faces. There are so many more bloopers than this, but I had to cut myself off before my whole blog just became covered with ridiculous pictures.

Here's to remembering not to take yourself too seriously!

Happy Tuesday!

Stripe Out

My Threads: Shirt: H&M (similar), Skirt: J.Crew Factory (similar), Booties: Target, Bag: Calvin Klein, Necklace: ebay (real version), Belt: Forever 21 (similar), Bracelet: Francesca's (gift!), Watch: Michael Kors (similar)

Apparently, I'm really into stripes this week. I didn't even notice until I was scrolling through pictures. So here are more stripes, just to keep with the unplanned theme of the week!

Anyway, this will probably be the last day of bare legs for a while. It started raining today, and I think it's supposed to rain all week. So in case you haven't been keeping up with LA weather (because reading LA weather reports is the most interesting pass time, I know), we went from 27 degrees to 83 degrees to pouring rain in one week. Every morning, I just stand in front of my closet switching back and forth between staring at my closet and the weather app on my phone. Then I just grab a million layers that come on and off all day.

But who knows. Next week it could be 100 degrees. Southern California is just throwing all kinds of curve balls.

Morning Madness

My Threads: Shirt: GoJane (similar), Blazer: H&M (similar), Skirt: Forever 21, Booties: Target (similar), Clutch: Coach (similar), Bracelets: Charming Charlie, Watch: Michael Kors

Weird things happen to me. I don't mean weird as in I've been abducted by aliens or anything, just kind of absurd things happen on the day-to-day.

Here's how my morning went yesterday. Got up (late), showered, got dressed, and toasted a fake poptart from TJ's. Nothing unusual. Then I headed out to the garage, my purse, lunch, and breakfast in hand, only to find my garage door would only open a foot. What ensued was an hour of chaos, which included me trying to lift the door by myself while eating my poptart with my purse on, Marc leaving school and sliding under the garage, climbing on my car, unhooking motors, and banging on the door. Because banging on broken things is always the best solution.

After about 45 minutes, we decided my car wasn't coming out. So Marc volunteered to just drive me to work. And, of course, because I was already an hour late, the exit off the freeway had to be closed.

So my excuse when I finally got to work? My car was trapped in the garage, I had to crawl on the ground, and I couldn't get off the freeway. That's stuff you just can't make up.

My garage is still broken, in case you were wondering, but my landlord managed to bust my car out.

Hope your Wednesday went a little more smoothly than mine!

Disco

My Threads: Shirt: J.Crew Factory (sleeveless version), Shorts: H&M (similar), Booties: Target, Bag: Calvin Klein, Bracelets & Necklace (similar): Forever 21, Watch: Michael Kors

I've never met a sequin that I didn't like. Some sequins are more sparkly or different shapes, but they are all fabulous.

They also kind of make me look like a human disco ball. I'm pretty sure if someone were to shine a light on me, this shirt would fill the room with little specks of light. And then a group of teenagers dressed in 70s prom duds would just appear and start dancing.

Maybe I should avoid spotlights and high school gyms in this outfit. I'll just wear it everywhere else instead.

Is it bad that this outfit makes me want to buy more sequins? I could totally go for a sequined pencil skirt right now.

Happy Hump Day!

Country Swing

My Threads: Dress: Lauren Conrad for Kohl's (similar), Sweater: local boutique (similar), Boots: Steve Madden, Bag: Calvin Klein, Belt: Target, Necklace: J.Crew Factory (similar), Watch: Michael Kors

This outfit makes me feel like I should be at a country concert. Unfortunately, I don't listen to country music, so it will probably never actually be worn to a country concert. Unless someone who listens to country just so happens to put the exact same thing together. It could happen.

So this dress is one of those dresses that wrinkles in 3 seconds. You probably noticed. I iron it (or hang it in the bathroom while I'm showering), then I turn me head, and it looks like I stored it in a little ball. I promise I don't store it wadded up in a little ball. The fabric is just evil.

Hope you have a happy Tuesday!

January Summer

My Threads: Shirt: J.Crew, Skirt: H&M (similar), Pumps: Calvin Klein via Nordstrom Rack, Clutch: Coach (similar), Necklace: Francesca's, Bracelets: Forever 21 and Target, Watch: Michael Kors

Okay, so remember last week when I was complaining about the literally freezing 30 degree weather? Now it's in the high 70s here. Southern California is such a spaz. I had all these genius winter outfit ideas in my head (not actually involving clothes I own), but then 'bam!' I had to come up with a bunch of summery things instead. Because three shirts and a jacket just don't fly in January summer.

Anyway, I have a confession to make. Last week, I bought three sequined shirts. I guess I was feeling...sparkly? I might already own several striped shirts, but this one is shiny. So it's totally justified. Making excuses is the first step to recovery, right? Right.

I hope you had a happy weekend! I managed to watch the whole first season of Girls on dvd, so obviously, my weekend was very productive.

Featured Friday: Dani of The Daily Dani

Okay, so I always get really excited when I stumble upon awesome bloggers. Which happens about 100 times a day. At least, that's what it seems like. So I'm going to start introducing you to some of these bloggers every couple weeks. Because you should know them.

First up, Dani of The Daily Dani! She's a fellow Southern California girl with a laid-back sense of style and an amazing taste in music.

Hi there, A Devine Life readers! I'm Dani from The Daily Dani! I post daily outfit photos, weekly blogger features, and an occasional bit of celeb style! I'm so excited to be here on Emily's blog today! I featured her on my blog back in October, and I'm so happy to visiting with you all now!

How would you describe your style?
I'd say my style is Southern California eclectic, with touches of boho and laid-back preppy.

What or who inspires your outfits?
I get most of my inspiration from my fellow bloggers! Whether it be through perusing my favorites or spending way too much time on Pinterest, my friends in the blogosphere make fashion so relatable and easy to interpret from my own closet!

Aside from Pinterest, I read lots of fashion mags and am always interested in celebrity street style! My current celebrity fashion icons are Rachel Bilson, Lauren Conrad, & Amber Heard!

Living in Southern California, how do you incorporate seasonal trends into your wardrobe?
It's so hard! We've had a bit of a California cold spell lately, so I've been all about layers, layer, layers! Even though I may pair together lots of lightweight pieces, it's a good way to mix pattern, texture, and style all while keeping myself cozy!

If you had to wear only one outfit for the rest of your life, what would it be?
There is something so effortless and comfy about a chambray shirt, leggings, moccasins, and a lightweight scarf.

What season is your favorite to dress for? Why?
This is a hard one, because California hardly has seasons! I'd say either spring or fall, because it's nice to feel like I can wear any piece in my wardrobe! I love the idea of walking into my closet, pairing together warm-weather and cool-weather pieces, and coming up with transitional outfits!

What inspired you to start blogging?
I started reading blogs a long time before I started writing mine! I loved the idea of a creative outlet, but there was one major reason why I started: the fear of wasting a good outfit! I felt like I was dressing up every day for work, but "no one" was seeing it - hence, the style blog!

What was the worst trend you willingly jumped on board with?
Oh boy. There might not be enough space here. Overalls, skirts over jeans, denim maxi skirts, a sickening array of cartoon graphic tees... Being a teenager is so awkward!

So there's Dani! Don't forget to stop by and pay her blog a visit.

Practically Pajamas

My Threads: Shirt: H&M (similar), Jeans: Hollister (similar), Vest: Gap (similar), Scarf: H&M (similar), Boots: Steve Madden, Bag: Calvin Klein, Belt: Forever 21 (similar), Bracelets: Forever 21, Watch: Michael Kors (similar)

I think winter has defeated me. Our entire week of it. I know, poor Californians suffering in the 40 degree weather. But the combination of freezing cold mornings and a stomach bug have made it difficult to get dressed this week. Or get out of bed. Or even just wake up. But I digress. Comfortable has been about all I can manage. So here you have it. The most comfortable outfit I own, other than sweats or pajamas.

Fear not, though. Summer is on the horizon. As in tomorrow. It's supposed to be in the high 70s again this weekend, and I have big plans for wearing every skirt I own before it gets cold again. And showing off my blindingly white, dry legs. You're welcome.

Also, I think I may need to start a support group for the sequin obsessed. We can just meet after the polka dot group. More on this later.

Hope you have a happy Thursday!
